ResearchBlogging non ha chiuso, contrariamente a quanto precedentemente annunciato. C'era solo bisogno di un nuovo sponsor, The Self-Regulation Institute. Nell'e-mail che è stata inviata ai blogger iscritti al servizio, era presente il messaggio del fondatore dell'istituto, Stuart Shanker:
